Devlog Development Log #7 – Multiplayer Improvements & New Features!
#1
Hi everyone!

Time for another development log!

This time we've been working on improving multiplayer security, bringing back a familiar gamemode from the Guardian Collection, and adding some room settings that probably shouldn't exist, but we're glad they do.

Multiplayer Security Improvements

We've been focusing on implementing host-side authentication checks to improve security within multiplayer rooms.
We won't be going into the specifics of what's changed, as we'd rather not provide potential exploiters with a convenient list of things to work around.

We're taking full advantage of FishNet's networking capabilities to make sure room hosts have better control over what is and isn't allowed to happen. Hackers unfortunately have a habit of ruining the experience for everyone else, so we're doing what we can to make that considerably more difficult.

Hide and Seek

We've also ported Hide and Seek from the Guardian Collection! For those unfamiliar with the gamemode, here's how it works:

15-SECOND HIDING PERIOD: Hiders have 15 seconds to find somewhere to hide before the seekers are released.

FASTER SEEKERS: Seekers move 20% faster than regular players.

INVINCIBLE SEEKERS: Seekers cannot be killed, so fighting back isn't particularly useful.

In other words, you've got 15 seconds to find a hiding spot before an immortal Teletubby with a speed advantage comes looking for you. Good luck with that.

New Room Settings

We've also brought over several room settings from the Guardian Collection, because apparently regular multiplayer wasn't chaotic enough.

SHRINK: Every time you die, your character becomes slightly smaller. This continues with each death until a new round begins. Eventually, you might need a magnifying glass to find your teammates.

BIG HEADS: Exactly what it sounds like. Everyone gets ridiculously oversized heads. No practical benefits whatsoever.

PAPERTUBBIES: Every character, including NPCs, becomes a 2D version of themselves. Turns out removing an entire dimension from everyone makes for surprisingly good entertainment.

Here's a look at some of the new room settings and Hide and Seek in action!
